Roma and Ramon’s Music-Fillled Oaxaca, Mexico-Inspired Wedding

When a wedding blends culture, artistry, and intentional design, it becomes far more than a celebration—it becomes an experience. Great Day SA host, Roma Villavicencio, always dreamed of a wedding in Mexico. But, when her fiancé, Ramon, mentioned that his 96 year old grandmother had to be there, they decided to bring Mexico to San Antonio with inspiration from the vibrant traditions of Oaxaca. Their celebration unfolded across two of San Antonio’s most historic and artistic settings—Mission San José and Southwest School of Art at UTSA Arts—creating a wedding weekend rich in culture, beauty, and unforgettable moments.

The couple chose the breathtaking setting of Mission San José for their ceremony, one of the most iconic Spanish colonial missions in Texas. With its ornate stone façade and centuries-old architecture, the mission provided a sense of timeless reverence and spiritual beauty—an ideal setting for exchanging vows.

Their wedding Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Gustavo García-Siller. During the ceremony, the archbishop presented the couple with a rosary that had been blessed by Pope Francis himself—a sacred keepsake they will treasure for a lifetime.

After the wedding mass, the San Antonio Charros formed a receiving line in front of Mission San José to honor the couple. Alongside them, Mariachi Azteca De America played a festive tune.

Following the musical festivities and family portraits, Roma, Ramon, and their closest family and friends gathered at the Thompson Hotel for a celebratory tequila shot. Afterwards, Bexar Brass led the calenda, a traditional Oaxacan festive street procession honoring the couple.

When they arrived at the Southwest School of Art—now part of UTSA Arts— Mariachi Azteca De America ushered in a vibrant new musical experience for the couple and their guests. The venue’s courtyards and galleries created a natural canvas for a celebration that was both refined and authentic.

Design elements throughout the reception reflected the colors, textures, and spirit of Oaxaca. Thoughtfully curated details transformed the space into an immersive experience, celebrating Mexican artistry while maintaining an elevated, sophisticated aesthetic. The result was a wedding that felt both vibrant and elegant—where cultural inspiration met intentional design.

The couple’s grand entrance was led by none other than San Antonio piano icon, Doc Watkins, whose music continued to fill the room as he performed throughout dinner.

Roma and Ramon didn’t simply plan a wedding—they curated an experience. Every aspect of the celebration was designed to tell a story about their relationship, their heritage, and the joy of bringing families and communities together.

From meaningful ceremony moments to the various musical performances and lively energy of the reception, the evening unfolded with effortless grace. Guests were invited not just to attend a wedding, but to participate in a celebration of culture, love, and artistry.

This wedding’s thoughtful design and cultural inspiration did not go unnoticed. The celebration was selected as the “Vows That Wow” feature for February 2026 by Wed Society San Antonio, highlighting its distinctive design and unforgettable wedding experience, and is featured in the Wed Society San Antonio 2026 Book of Weddings.
